The Schlagwerk U72S Skin Udu L is part of the German brand's top-shelf Skin Series. It may be a little smaller than the XL version, but at 37 cm high and 27 cm in diameter, this udu certainly isn't the smallest instrument out there. Compared to models in other series, the Skin Udu features a tunable drumhead at the bottom, which opens up fresh perspectives when it comes to sound.
About the Udu
Originating in Nigeria, the udu was originally used as a jug before Igbo women starting using them to play music. Udus produce a characteristically deep and powerful sound, and you can change the pitch by placing your hand over the sound hole in different ways. Remarkably versatile, they're even great for playing light ghost notes and it won't take any self-respecting percussionist long to find their way around this special percussion instrument.
